Wistar Murray of Park Life Photography blogged about Friday April 8th’s dress rehearsal of HAIRSPRAY 2016:

Our second annual fundraiser:  Broadway Salutes Community Theater Sunday November 16, 2015  at The Laurie Beechman was a treat for all!

BPCMT was started in the fall of 2010.  We’ve mounted six previous annual musicals: URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL in 2011, INTO THE WOODS in 2012, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND in 2013, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF in 2014, THE PAJAMA GAME in 2015 and HAIRSPRAY in 2016.

The philosophy of Brooklyn Players Community Musical Theater is the same as it has been at Brooklyn Players for the past 15 years  - a nurturing and non-competitive artistic community that collaborates to put on shows with heart and fun.  There is a range of performance experience and abilities in shows’ cast members, and there will be room for everyone in the cast to be supported in their abilities to grow as musical theater performers.

BPCMT was founded on principles of nurturing talent, raising the bar for existing talent, and most of all, creating a safe space for growth in a talent pool that is diverse in performing experience, training, age and background. BPCMT is dedicated to non-traditional casting racially, ethnically and otherwise. In this year’s production of RAGTIME, many roles will be cast according to script description, but other roles will be open to actors of all races. This is a positive environment for beginning musical theater performers who are open to taking risks, and for experienced performers who are open to trying new things and challenging themselves. We have cast actors who have never danced; dancers who have never sung, etc. This is an excellent opportunity for actors looking to work on rewarding material with a supportive and skilled artistic team in a nurturing environment.

Our first BROADWAY SALUTES COMMUNITY THEATER fundraising concert  with Tony Award Winner Beth Leavel and other Broadway Performers singing songs from their community/youth theater days was in January, 2014.   You can see photos of the event here:
